Frequently asked

Do I need a TEFL certificate before I apply?
No. You complete your 120-hour Ofqual-recognised TEFL certification online after you enrol and before you arrive in Peru. We guide you through the process and there's no time pressure — most participants complete it over 6–8 weeks at their own pace.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
Not at all. Teaching at BrittanyGroup is conducted entirely in English. Your Spanish classes begin from Day 1 at your assessed level, whether that's complete beginner or intermediate.
Is accommodation included in the programme fee?
Accommodation is not included in the programme fee, which keeps your costs flexible and your choices your own. We provide a curated guide of vetted, safe, affordable housing options in both Lima and Arequipa — most participants spend £150–£250/month on a private room in a shared house close to the campus. Expedition overnight stays (Huacachina and Cusco) are included in the relevant tiers.
Can I use Turing Scheme funding?
Yes. All three programme tiers are Turing Scheme eligible. We provide all documentation your university needs to process your funding application, including placement confirmation letters, institutional details, and British Council accreditation evidence.
Is this recognised as a Year Abroad?
This depends on your university's specific Year Abroad criteria. Many Modern Languages and Education departments accept this placement, particularly when combined with the Turing Scheme. We recommend speaking with your Year Abroad coordinator early — we're happy to provide any letters or documentation they require.
How safe is Peru for international students?
BrittanyGroup has operated in Lima and Arequipa since 1999 and has hosted international students for over a decade. We provide thorough safety orientation on arrival, vetted accommodation recommendations in secure neighbourhoods, and 24/7 contact for support. Both Lima (Miraflores/Lince) and Arequipa (Bustamante/Umacollo) are established residential and commercial areas with low risk for everyday activity.
When can I start?
We have January and March intake dates aligned with Peru's academic calendar. Submit your application and we'll confirm available start dates and intake capacity within one business day.
